The Cave
Josh breathed in a lungful of sea air, and even though he saw only darkness when his eyes opened, his thoughts screamed loud and ecstatic: I’m alive.
He coughed. He shivered at the shock of his wet clothes and the cold, uneven stone beneath him that had all sapped away his heat. His body ached, and as he stretched, he found his hands were bound together with rope behind him and a wooden pole stood between his arms. He sat up, pulling and twisting against the restraints as panic set in, but he stopped. He forced himself to stop and breathe. He’d scrape his wrists raw before the pole or the rope budged.
